Growing up in the Conejo Valley, it was rumored from an old-timer that the Chumash Indians once described this area as "protected" and gave it the name, "clearing in the clouds".  The long-time resident was also a pilot, and added that when flying above, there always seemed to be clear skies and calm conditions surrounding the Conejo.  Maybe this is just another reason why Thousand Oaks has earned the title of "safest City in the nation" more than once.
